Excellent Cruft
When God hates all the same people you do, its a sign you've created Him in your own image.
"Of The People" Stinks
I've been a tad recalcitrant in posting new stuff lately, but that's okay - you get what you pay for. Still, I came across something a few days ago I wanted to share:
"Let’s work backwards: if a million people think 2+2=5, then they are
not a million idiots, but a “constituency.” If they are growing in
number, they are also a “movement.” And, if you were not only the first
person to proclaim 2+2=5, but you were the first to persuade others,
then you, my friend, are not an idiot, but a visionary."
We've Lost. Again.
I ran up the white flag a few months back over the depressing direction of Iraqi politics. It was my contention then that regardless of whatever Al Queida body-count the "coalition" trumpets, the fact that Iraqi's were replacing their secular dictatorship with a democratic theocracy pretty rendered any wins we'd accrued as essentially pointless. Time has only confirmed this analysis.
ajaxWrite
I told myself I'd publish no more links until I actually created some genuine content of my own, but this is just too cool. Imagine a web based application the does just about everything MS Word does using CSS, XML, and JavaScript (the much-hyped "AJAX" stack). Including editing Word documents. For free.
Contrary Brin
"Contrary Brin" is an odd little site, and I struggle to describe what it's all about. David Brin, a Sci-Fi writer of some renown, describes himself as a "modernist" (not a "futurist") in outlook, and a "realist" (not an ideologue) in politics. When voting, he probably holds his nose (like most of us) and votes for the idiot on the left of the spectrum (as opposed to the liar on the right), but he prolly wont defend the guy.
Why We Can't Just Get Along
I find myself occupying the somewhat awkward space between “bemused” and “horrified” as I watch the unfolding “Mohammed Cartoon” crises. I am amused because there exists something that can reasonable be called a “crisis” concerning something about a cartoon. I am horrified because of what it reveals about the world we live in.
Ha Ha Ha America
Just Watched "Ha Ha Ha America", a Sundance film by JD Ligon. It is a truly brutal look at our relationship with China. Takes about 10 minutes. Guess which country has more English speakers? Guess which country has more people employed by American companies? Ooooh, yeah. Ha ha
